Senior Research Associate/Research Fellow Social Psychology or Behaviour Change
The role
University of Bristol’s Population Health Sciences Team are seeking to appoint a mixed methods researcher to help develop and evaluate interventions that seek to create positive impact in the urban development industry. Our goal is to influence senior decisions makers to take health considerations and inequalities more seriously, and thus substantially improve urban environments.
We are looking for a candidate with a background in social psychology or a field where behaviour change is a core component of your work done in that field such as management, population health or behavioural economics. You will have experience in intervention design and evaluation, and either experience or a strong interest in highly interdisciplinary and innovative research approaches. You will be supervised by Daniel Black (UoBristol) and join a multidisciplinary team, led Dr Krista Bondy (UoStirling).
What will you be doing?
You will work with Daniel Black, Krista Bondy and a multidisciplinary team from a wide range of disciplines (public health: urban studies, law, systems approaches, economics, management, real estate and public engagement) across five universities. Specific research activities will include: intervention design with both qualitative and quantitative measurement of the intervention implementation and outcomes; conducting interviews and analysis; facilitation of intervention specific events; data analysis using relevant tools; assisting in the development of the impact strategy; communicating research outputs to non-academics; working directly with senior members of industry; contributing to the organisation and facilitation of stakeholder workshops in which interventions are co-developed; disseminating findings at conferences and in journal articles.
The role provides a rare opportunity to join a large and established research group who are working with a wide array of real-world practitioners and lay public representatives to co-develop and test innovative multi-action interventions with the aim of making cities healthier and more sustainable. The findings will be of interest across multiple disciplinary areas and real-world communities.
The Senior Research Associate/Research Fellow Grade spans J-K and reflects an anticipated range of candidate experience and will be determined following interviews. Appointment at Senior Research Associate (J) or Research Fellow (K) will depend on years from PhD and/or evidence of working independently; Research Fellows will have proven leadership/grant generation experience and a more substantial record of publication.
You should apply if
You have a PhD in a field related to behaviour change
You have a strong track record in behavioural science methods and their application to intervention development and mixed methods evaluation
You have excellent communication skills (written and oral) and project management skills
You have published research in good quality journals
